Falling Waters State Park

[Photo: The sinkhole that contains the waterfall is accessable via a wooden staircase. The pit is surrounded by green foliage.] Falling Waters State Park is located in Florida's panhandle. It has often proved a good place for leg-stretching on my family's trips between Alabama and Florida. After you park your car, it's a short, enjoyable walk over a series of boardwalks to reach the main feature of the park: the waterfall. The park has boardwalks to nearby sinkholes as well as a swimming area. [Photo: A narrow stream emerges among fall leaves and green ferns to begin a downward tumble]
This park is special because it contains Florida's only waterfall. The water flows as a small stream past trees and ferns and is simply swallowed up into a pit in the ground.
These photos are from around Thanksgiving, 2002.
